We made a few new experimental releases

There is now also a dedicated chat room:

It features extensive bot support. You can upload replays, new games and maps will be announced. Besides finding opponents we also moved our development channel there, so we get a better exchange with the community and open up the process further.

I made a small server browser https://openhv.github.io/games.html as I was frustrated to see those vanish in the list with the more popular mods.

Is it possible to build this project using Mono XBuild instead of the propietary MSBuild?

XBuild is supposed to be the replacement in Mono for MSBuild. However, I am not sure at all about possible differencies.

xbuild was officially deprecated back in 2017, and is no longer compatible with projects that require a modern .NET toolchain. It won't be possible to compile OpenHV or any other OpenRA project using it.

Thank you Steipnir.

The project should change the Build instructions to reference that MSBuild is Free Software under the MIT license because it is referenced as propietary software (https://github.com/OpenHV/OpenHV/wiki/Build) and even their binary builds seem to be under the same license.

I asked about XBuild support because of this reference.

Thank you also for the link pointing that is deprecated. Given that last Mono sources allowed XBuild to be built (as showed in Debian upstream clone of the 6.8.0 release which is a bit far from last upstream 6.12.0.122) I thought that was still supported and also official in Mono project.

See also https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/issues/16615 and more interestingly https://launchpad.net/~eofla/+archive/ubuntu/msbuild as a Debian package. Note that this is not yet in a quality where it could be submitted into the official repositories. When I tried to submit it to openSUSE the lawyers said it contains non-free parts though I don't exactly know which. That has to be patched out and the bootstrapping also has to be done according to Debian guidelines. It is a complicated dependency, and I am not thrilled about it, but we don't really have a choice here.
