Grenadiers need a buff

Post by Murto the Ray »

Grenadiers currently have very little use, whilst they are faster than the average unit; they cannot hold their own against any other attacking infantry and their job of demolishing building can be done a lot easier and quicker with a flamer-rush.

There is a need for some aspects of them to be improved; these are some ideas i put forward:

1. Speed increase - it will allow them to creep past enemy defenses a lot quicker than currently
2. A spread/damage increase - a grenade would kill any normal human being so surely a grenade thrown into a squad of riflemen shouldn't just leave then with very little damage as currently - it should take out at least one of them or heavily damage them all
3. An additional ability such as the C4 that tanya used to be able to place on vehicles - giving them an additional use

Opinions needed.

Not sure if this applies to Red Alert or CNC95. So im going to speak on behalf of the CNC95 of the game.

Grenadiers only buff I would consider is to increase the projectile of the grenades thrown speed. To me, its a tad bit to slow. It was actually nerfed in its speed some patches ago as you can check the current CNC95 game of the original speed. That speed I would agree with.

As for speed increase? They are fine. You can easily throw a grenade then run and throw some more. Easily out ranging the minigunners.

Spread/damage increase? This is fine too. Cluster a good group of grenadiers and they are the perfect counters to flamers and chem troopers. For the structures itself they do a fantastic job at nailing them down. Turrets and AGTs are resistant to flamers while the Grenadiers have no resistances.

Apologies, i should have been more specific; i am referring to the grenadiers from Red Alert.

i'd buff them modestly. Grenade spread, damage output against unarmored targets.

and their own risk of getting blown up reduced by a bit.

Their speed makes them a decent scouting unit. Better than dogs in the way that a pack of grenadiers can deal with enemy buildings.

They are about half the cost of flamers though. I think you're 2nd idea is the only one of the 3 that wouldn't make them OP.

The one allied unit I think needs a buff is the longbow. I'd be ok with a slight hind nerf in exchange.

Hmmm.... I think grenadiers should have 2 major buffs:

- Buff their damage against infantry units and also their throwing speed. Their actual damage is ridiculous, and is also too slow.

- They should have splash damage (like V2, but no too much) so they´ll become handy against tons of rocketsoldiers/artys.

But, I also think that grenadiers should have 100% chance to explode. Why? For using them like Terrorists in C&C Generals. That thing should add an interesting way of playing and using them. If a shit-ton of infantrys are coming to your base, just APC a pack of them, deploy it in the middle and boom! you got suicide bombers too. GG.

What´s your opinion?

i don't like that single little Grenadier to blow up like an arty. Seems a bit silly imo. But of course if you raise the explode Chance to 100% you get suicide Bombers. Funny idea.

I agree that Longbows (and i think also Migs, at least compared to Red Alert) are somehow underwhelming. I dunno, this might be intentional by the Openra devs.

how about switching grenadiers to allies ? ... they seem to have no rush unit , and soviets have them all ... this looks a bit unfair anyway

and then buff them , so they are more equal to flamethrowers

OpenRA Nicks :
- Everything with "Blueblood" inside
- Yuelang (when I speak Chinese, literally)

My Ping might be Red... blame distance and my shitty connection due to which country I lived in...
