The point of MAD Tanks

Post by asi_turk »

I tried to use mad tank in the fight as a demo truck cuz it said it creates damage to nearby units blah blah when I push right click my screen goes to right and it made a small damage to nearby units and buildings. (Only damage!)

Whats the point of MAD Tanks? :?

They deal damage to a particular unit or structure as a percentage of its total health. 3 MAD Tanks will destroy anything in game (except infantry and other MAD Tanks). You can also use them with an Iron Curtain or Chronosphere.

pay $7500 to do something that could be more throughly done by $5000 worth of demo trucks?

yes, mad tanks do have their niche use since they're much more robust and didn't kill infantry so you can follow iron-curtained MAD tanks attack with a horde full of infantry to exploit the breakthrough. But they're only good to go against other soviets... because arty with 14 range will seriously murder your infantry forces, since every allied players protect their arty... and mad tank destruction isn't instant
...

Ok, perhaps MAD tanks should be made cheaper?

Not in a teamgame!

As Scott_NZ says, MAD Tanks can be Chronoshifted and Iron Curtain'd. With that in mind, getting them to the target destination is much easier than sending Demo Trucks across the map where they're vulnerable to airstrikes and any escort units are also at risk of being blasted to the Moon. MAD Tanks? Curtain 'em, shift 'em, deploy 'em, and BOOM! They'll be immune to external damage from enemy units but still manage to detonate while the Curtain is active, and long before they get shifted back to their original position.

Of course it's all theoretical scenarios here in a forum post, and in practice such things won't go like that every single time, but that's why such destructive tactics are also such a gamble, and rightly so. If it works, it basically wipes one guy out of the game for a while (or even permanently) and nets you $$$$ in bounties. If it fails, you're probably going to get stomped in a counter-attack.
