server crashes on startup (sometimes)

Post by vidski »

so............ I'm feeling ultra noob right now. heh :\

As soon as I start the game, I would say about half the time, it instantly crashes.

Someone suggested everyone tick ready instead of clicking "start game." So I've been playing around with that, but am in search of a more solid solution.

Anyway here is terminal output, and system specs. I am noticing a lot of "file unknown" but new to openRA so a vets help might be of great assistance.

Any suggestions/ideas would be appreciated :)

I can only confirm, as I played on your server with others several times already.

50% it runs absolutely fine, the other 50% it crashed for me and/or others. Meaning game suddenly stopped, units could not be moved anymore and chatting did not work anymore.
One time I had to ctrl-alt-del openra, the other times I could abord the game and join another one.

vidski, what version of openra do you use? You can post bugreports on http://bugs.open-ra.org.

openra noarch release.20120315-1 @/openra-release.20120315-1.noarch

Somewhat ironically, I have noticed that clicking the "start game" button, instead of ticking the ready box, will almost always result in a successful start for any game up to about 7 players. (3v3 and 1 spectator etc...) I have no explanation for this, and can only comment on what a consistent difference it seems to make.

One time I tried a 4v4 +1 spectator, and game did not crash, but was not able to sync. (clock stuck at 0.00 and no units appear on map). I realize however, that this is likely an issue on my end, such as hardware and/or internet connectivity/bandwidth limitations.

As per some of the conversations I have had with more experienced oRA hosters, I am not under the impression that the game is all that hardware intensive, or that it requires a super-mega top shelf server. I certainly don't have the biggest baddest rig in town, and for what it's worth, as long as it doesn't crash on start, the game usually runs just fine.

EDIT:

Scratch that... new release out today!

Well see if 0504 brings me better fortune. :P
