Dune Land of Sand

Post by Sircrashalot »

This mod aims to add more diversity to the factions and more differences between them.

House Atreides:
The noble house Atreides has the most diverse infantry units and with the medic being buffed infantry is worth building now.

Barracks:
Rifleman (good vs infantry, medium vs light vehicles and bad vs heavy vehicles)
Rocket Trooper (good vs heavy and light vehicles, bad vs infantry, can attack air)
Medic (heals infantry)
Grenadier (good vs everything but best vs groups of infantry) not implemented yet
Fremen (good vs everything but expensive and the palast is required)
Engineer (can capture buildings, might be able to repair husks in the next openra release)

Light factory:
Scout Trike (good vs infantry, medium vs light and bad vs heavy vehicles)
Quad (good vs light and heavy vehicles, bad vs infantry)

Heavy factory:
Harvester
Artillery (Siege Tank) (good vs infantry, medium vs light and bad vs heavy vehicles)
Tank (no changes to the tank yet, right now it has higher range than the other tanks)
MCV
Sonic Tank (will get line damage as soon as its implemented)

Starport:
Carryall (right now only infantry transport)
Ornithopter (right now helicopter style with machine gun, good vs infantry, medium vs light and bad vs heavy vehicles)

House Ordos:
This house focuses on stealth and speed.

Barracks:
Chem Trooper (good vs infantry, medium vs light vehicles and bad vs heavy vehicles, can not attack buildings)
Rocket Trooper
Engineer
Saboteur

Light factory:
Ordos Raider
Ordos Invisible Raider (maybe just an upgrade for the Raider if that’s possible, or will be reworked to have more firepower or different weapons, right now its stealthed and has a bettter gun than the normal raider)

Heavy factory:
Harvester
Siege Tank
Medium Tank
MCV
Deviator

Starport:
Carryall (right now only infantry transport)
Ornithopter (right now helicopter style with machine gun, good vs infantry, medium vs light and bad vs heavy vehicles)

House Harkonnen:
They focus on expensive and slow but strong units.

Barracks:
Heavy Trooper (good vs everything, best vs tanks)
Engineer

Light factory:
Harkonnen Quad

Heavy factory:
Harvester
Missile Tank
Medium Tank
MCV
Devastator

Starport:
Carryall (right now only infantry transport)
Ornithopter (right now helicopter style with machine gun, good vs infantry, medium vs light and bad vs heavy vehicles)

Future units:
Ordos anti air unit, light or heavy vehicle
Harkonnen Flamer unit, infantry or tank
APCs for every faction (maybe different abilities though)
Different air unit styles for each faction (Ornithopters only for Atreides)
Thumpers being able to call Sand worms (most likely all factions will get them)
New Super weapon for Ordos
Adding the Atreides grenadier to the Barracks

Future features:
If possible carryalls being able to return full harvesters and being able to transport vehicles.
Sand worms.
Concrete plates.
With the new openra release Ordos Saboteurs will be able to attack Vehicles with C4 too.

If someone is interested in testing my mod send me a message or contact me on IRC.
I am also in need for someone to help me with the new shps i need for the new units and icons.

Looks nice :) good job.
I assume it's possible to grab most of the resources you need from the existing Dune mod?

..Hrm, I have to ask, though, if you're using D2K material, which is basically all just static images..

Why.. would you work on models?

To create shps. I use the renders (from different angles) and export them as images. Those images will be used to create shps.

The next release will be delayed for a while. It takes more time to convert it to the new OpenRA build than i expected. Also the interested in the community is very low.

I think it's not so much that the interest in the community is low, but more that the community is small, and most players probably don't visit this forum. In my time lurking I haven't seen many topics reach more than a couple of pages.

That might very well be true.

Just look at this very forum, just OpenRA's General Discussion and Modding get any discussion, and it's still like 5 posts a day tops.

I assume it used to be different, but I myself have only joined a short while back.

I think the people are quite spread out. There's this forum, IRC, Facebook, Reddit and comments in the github issue tracking system, and I haven't even looked at the Google+, Twitter and ModDB pages.

Sircrashalot, have you tried linking to your forum post from any of those for more exposure? :)
