Loading a saved game takes 10 minutes

Hi,

is it normal that loading a previously saved game literally takes minutes? Everything else works fine but when I try to load a game (doesn't matter if it's CnC, RA or Dune), the loading bar creeps so agonizingly slow that I just quit the game after a 2-3 minutes and do something else.

Is this normal for OpenRA or what's going on?

Hi, sadly this is normal because of the model we currently need to use to save games (you basically save a replay, and the loading then plays the replay up to the point you re-enter the game).

Just a thought: if you enable framelimiter and set to to a really low value like 2 fps and then watch the replay, replay will play super fast. Maybe this works for loading savegames too?

The savegame simulation already does that behind the scenes, so there would be no benefit even if the game UI allowed it.
