Minimal working example of AI for Dune2000 ?

Post by Adrian »

I remember about Dune2000 by OpenRa. I have just recall, I mean. I recently remembered.

And now I'm trying to make a mission. From a map from original Dune.
I can convert the map. With utility.

But I have no expirience about creation of AI files, bots etc.
Is there any documentation? Or working example?

It's not the same game technically, but the Red Alert or Command and Conquer missions should provide a fairly decent template for how AI is structured in this engine, for single-player missions. I'd recommend Allies 2 from RA to look at how the .lua looks and how the map.yaml looks, since it imports things like CampaignRules. You can find it under (OpenRA)\mods\ra\maps\allies02

If you want to mess with Dune 2000's mission files, they're under (OpenRA)\mods\d2k\maps\, though I don't know which ones would have things like base-construction intact. I haven't played Dune 2000 in years.

I find it frustrating that the engine is not well documented for people who aren't interested in diving through the codebase itself, and there are things that frankly SHOULD work out of the box that just don't(IE: declaring a non-building actor a type of helipad for helicopters or planes. Actors are actors.) Sure, there's a LITTLE documentation and I'm glad for its existence, but it leaves much to be desired, especially in explaining itself.
