Hecthor Doomhammer's 1 vs 1 Tournament 2017

Post by Hecthor Doomhammer »

Hey guys,

It's time to discuss the upcoming Hecthor Doomhammer Red Alert 1vs1 Tournament (tm) 2017!

16 players will have a chance to fight for the prizepool (listed below)

Rules:
So Just like last time, I'm enforcing rules on which countries you can and cannot pick in each round and each round will have different rules. However, this year will be a tad different:

Round 1: Free (BO3) Players can pick any given country they want. be it their strongest or not. Any, Any (Soviets) and Any (Allies) are not allowed

Round 2: Random (BO5) Players are forced to pick Any. Not Any (Soviets) or Any (Allies) or any specific country

Semi Finals Mirror (BO5)/b] Just like last year's Finals and Bronze Match, all matches in this round are Mirror Matches and all 5 matches must be played. Winner will be determined via BO5. Order of the countries: France - Ukraine - Brittain - Russia - Gremany

Finals & Bronze Match: Strongest (BO7) Players are forced to pick their 1 strongest country and fight a BO7

The tournament will use a Single Elimination bracket system

Timeframe:
All days will be starting at 10:00 AM GMT / 12:00 PM CET
Just like last year, we'll be taking 2 entire weekends at the start of July:
Saturday July 1st First half of R1 & first half of R2
Sunday July 2nd Second half of R1 & second half of R2
Saturday July 8th Semi Finals
Sunday July 9th Bronze Match & Finals (+bonus???)

See this image: http://i.imgur.com/MQ809UL.png
Matches will be scheduled with 1 hour intervals
Should the previous match take longer. fine.
Should matches be shorter, we'll give players up to the scheduled time to show up if they're not there already.
Don't show up at the scheduled time = disqualification
Both players don't show up? both get disqualified and the the next round will be won by default
This time we will be taking the full 4 days as I will be a tad busy in the evenings and the more time I can have, the better.

Prizepool:
The prizepool thus far:
SoScared pledged €60
NoobMapMaker pledged €25
Wippie pledged €35
I myself will pledge € ?? (depending on Youtube moneys)
(Prize depends on how many sign ups we have)

Soscared also suggested we'd include a guaranteed spot in the Master's Division in the next season of the RA: GL to the winner, BUT should the winner already be in the Masters, that we kick him out of the Masters.
To me, however, that is not fair, punishing some one for winning a tournament. so I've deiced to completely exclude all current Masters Division Players
This way we'll have a much more interesting set up of players as (hopefully) no one will be too scared to sign up because there are no Masters to begin with.
Since Gatekeeper, who already is a Masters won my last tournament, I'm going to see if he's willing to "defend his title" as a post Finals Bonus Match (probs a BO3) against the winner so that we can see how the winner stacks up to a Master (will keep you all posted)

Map Pool
Yet to be decided. I'll let you guys decide, since you know way more than me
All maps must be 2P maps

Hecthor Doomhammer: Host & Caster
SoScared: Co-commentator & Promo-image maker (?)
FiveAces: Co-commentator (if available)
Jazz: Tech Support, Mumble Host & Game Host (for the passwords)

Other info
Registration Starts June 1st
Registration closes June 23rd
Max number of players: 16
Link to the bracket (once ppl start to sign up)
All communications with the players shall go through me (and Wippie) through the Forums and PM

July 1st to 9th is with the first week of my vacation. I haven't planned anything for that time period so if I'm around, I'll gladly report for duty!

Excelent, looking at the planning thus far, I should not be in the middle of a Mod Spotlight series, nor should my family have any plans (yet of course spontaneous things can happen at any time)

Given that a total of 16 players sign up, The Tournament Dates can be confirmed to be
Saturday July 1st: First half of the RO8 + first half of Quarter Finals (both Bo3)
Sunday July 2nd: 2nd half of the R08 + 2nd half of the Quarter Finals (both Bo3)
Saturday July 8th: Semi Finals (5 mirror matches)
Sunday July 9th: Bronze Match + Finals (both Bo7)

Just like last year I'm spreading the load of the first weekend evenly, to make sure that me, as caster, as well as potential fellow casters don't have too much pressure on them.
Last year went a lot smoother than I expected and I know we could potentially do the Bronze match and Finals on the 2nd Saturday, just like last year. This will be something that is up for discussion when we get there.

What I need from you guys:

Updated mappool
Available casters / commentators
Same password system as last time (@Jazz)
A back-up reader. (explenation below)

Because I messed up AM / PM in regards to Weeman, which ultimately led to him being kicked out, made me realize I need some one to make sure that all my written text, be it forum posts or PM's are correct. I do not wish to make a similar mistake this time.

In terms of the rules set for which country you can and cannot select (which is what makes my tournament special) I will be switching the Semi Finals (strongest) and Finals / Bronze match (5 mirrors)
but those details will become clear later.

SoScared, if you'd be willing to make another promo image for me, preferably 1280x720 resolution

I wanna pitch a suggestion to have the tournament winner get a seed to the season 4 Masters' Division. Currently there are TONS of hotshots in the community that have to wait 2 seasons (a year!) to get to the top.

With this idea, I think in the case a Masters' Player wins the tournament the seed doesn't fall to anyone else. Making the dynamic more interesting :D

Also, as mentioned on Discord, I pledge €60 towards the tournament prizepool.

I really like the idea of giving the winner - given he/she is not already part of the Masters' Division - a free pass into the Masters. Is this idea already set-in-stone or still up for debate? I'm all for it.

Also regarding the password system. I think we choose passwords for every round as they were all planned out beforehand and gave the passwords to the corresponding players in advance, iirc. This should work nicely this time as well...

Doomhammer and I discussed this recently, looks like this is happening :)

This way, the Masters' players also come into the tournament with an ACCESS DENIED card, adding a Masters' Division vs Everyone Else dynamic to the tournament - which I think is gonna be absolutely awesome.

Also, something I just thought about recently, the tournament is also set to be run after OpenRA's 10th Anniversary + New Trailer Release (June 19th) so I think we can expect a lot of trafficwith this tournament.

Awesome, worth more than the prizemoney imo!

What if a master wins the tournament though? Or do I misunderstand this sentence?

because I dont really understand what it means :)

Edit: ah yea as in: if a Master wins the tournament he/she has denied acces to the masters division.

Yeah, the Masters' Division seed is strictly for the 1st place, so if a Masters' players wins it means the seed is redundant.

So basically this rallies up all the non-Master Division players against the ones that are in the Master's, giving the whole Tournament a "A non Master should win this to make a point"-vibe :D

Considering we have so many good new players that are not in the League, yet.

Exactly :D

It's literally the Twelve Olympians vs the common folk.

@Doomhammer: How about that - The Olympus 1v1 Tournament 2017 :D

More like the "12 Olympians, who might as well not be Olympians anymore because they were heavily slacking in the past due to a lack of contestants Vs. The Common Folk, who seriously needs to de-throne them."

Well to be fair, the Olympians are woefully lazy!

@Doomhammer: how will you choose who will play? Its not unthinkable that th 10year anniverssary + masters league spot will attract many players.
