I've honestly hoped for the BTT2016 to be in November, like last year, but didn't think more of it once it got announced.

I think NMM's points needs to be seriously considered. We've experienced players and casters alike will feel somewhat depleted after an event. BBT2015 was a huge success with FiveAces covering the entire week of the tournament and Spy/Hamb covering US timezone matches. It took it's toll and FiveAces himself had to take a good break from OpenRA after the event given the extensive coverage. Unlike the RAGL and Doomhammer's 1v1 tournament the BTT is an extreme event in that depends on tons of matches being played within a week and that the matches are essentially 100% voluntary for all players, thus being super vulnerable to the mood of the community.

To me the BTT2015 felt like a huge afterparty, celebrating the passing year. With regards to the RAGL, a slow paced grinding event, I think it would benefit greatly from having a BTT at the end of the tunnel (end of November). It's also a time in which people will stay more at home (winter time, northern hemisphere) and has a big gap before it without any covered events.

Obviously I agree. It would be a real shame if ANY tournament becomes a failure because the casters, the players AND/OR the audience has OpenRA fatigue.

It COULD demoralize several participating parties which would be a real shame for future tournaments.

And aside from the negatiev side (the risk that tournaments fail) there is also a positive side that SoScared points out: having a cool wintertournament where we come together as a community - Merry X-mas :P - and finish of a nice year and not only that: we introduce the newbies in a fun way to competitive play.

I like this idea. It give s a lot of time to plan around and allows time for people to recover. Although, the second season of the RAGL may leave a bit of fatigue.

The Global League is a presence on players minds in almost 3 months (Sep-Nov) and could potentially put a dampener on the BTT hype. Many of the players are undoubtebly practicing a lot during the league season.

Something that I thought about recently, Doomy is the one who's gonna do all the management in his July tournament. I probably won't be available at every round in that tourny because of mid-summer vacations so I'm probably in good shape in August, as well as a batch of players coming home from summer vacation. There's also the possibility that Doomy will have some players registering in from his own viewer base.

In any event, personally I'll be able to fully support a BTT in August/November. For August, I'd recommend having it the 2nd week (8th - 14th) in order to have ample time for registrations post-summer vacation.

Now that Doomhammer altered his tournament to happen July 2nd - 10th, the Big Team Tournament 2016 summer time looks way more palatable.

I'd still hope for the Big Team Tournament to be in the first week of August (1st-7th) as it would be starting right after the end of some summer vacation periods. For my part, I'd be fully available from 1st of August and out.

I would not mind joining on occasion when I'm available for some casting of the games, but hearig how the last BTT went, I am not willing to dedicate that much time, even if I am able to.

I do agree that BTT2016 should be near the end of the year, to make a good closing off of the year for OpenRA.
