Left-click orders

Retire classic mouse orders #6949

pchote commented on 14 Nov 2014

This feature has never worked properly, and is one of our most frequent support requests / complaints by non-technical players on IRC / comments. Nobody has shown an interest in fixing and maintaining this feature, so it is time to remove it.

Doesn't work properly?? How so? Can someone explain why this would be a difficult programming issue?

I always use left-click. Never really had a problem with it.

Hmm just tried it, selected the option in the input settings.

It seems to work properly (also for rallypoint) when Im clicking slowly. When I select and order quickly then the left click sometimes deselects the units as it would when you use it reversed. This issue could however also be caused by my cheapass mouse ($10).

They heard the complaints, and it seems they're going to reimplement it at least for the next release.

Which makes me happy, as I'm one of those people who uses Left Click orders in EVERY SINGLE COMMAND AND CONQUER GAME.. where possible.

I was sad to see the left-click orders go, since I was so used to them from the original games. However, I personally had problems with them in OpenRA, so I can't oppose the removal.

Unfortunately bringing them back is more of a wishful thinking than a plan right now and I don't think anyone can promise they will be back by next release.

seems to me like the deselecting was caused by the "lasso" feature of the game being too sensitive IMHO.
