ColorValidator

Post by Proteus »

I started modding oRA again after a few years and was pretty impressed with all the new features.

There is one, however, that I wish I was actually able to disable, and that is the ColorValidator, I initially found out that it was a server trait inside mod.yaml, so I removed it, this didn't fix the 'problem'. I discovered that the validator is hardcoded into the oRA itself.

My friends and I don't really have a care about how well 'camouflaged' a unit or player's colour 'too closely matches the terrain' (seriously how the crap is 0,0,0 BLACK 'too similar' to the terrain? It really seems like whoever coded this didn't even try. How is White too similar to terrain on a DESERT or TEMPERATE map?)

I know this sounds kinda petty, but it's really infuriating to have the game forcibly change my lavender-purple to fricking blue because for some reason purple is similar to the terrain, yet blue, the colour of water is not (???)

I only request to be allowed to disable this poor attempt of a 'validator' from a mod as an OPTION, not to remove it completely, as I imagine it has a valid use for public lobbies and tournaments

The validator was bugged in the last release, which made it far stricter than it should have been. This has been fixed in the latest playtest. We're planning to make it optional (and disabled by default), but that didn't make it in time for the feature freeze this time around.
