[MAP] [RA] Poseidon [2-4 players]

Hi,

I decided to give the map editor a go and produced Poseidon, a large 192x192 multiplayer map designed for naval engagements of 2-4 players.

The water mass is kept large to allow some fleet manouvers, while the starting islands are kept very small in terms of landmass in order to make turtle strategies useless. Some oil derricks make the control of the islands at the corners and sides of the map vital, while the control of the middle island might give a first economic advantage.

Oil derricks have been modified to have 1500 health (150% of a conyard). Also, they are repairable with the building repair function and engineers. The most effective way to take them out is by the use of special forces (Tanya) or artillery.

Early playtests showed that the control of the inner island is of high importance. This map features large naval engagements, land battles, commando strikes against oil derricks, and the usual special tricks. Starting positions are shown in white on the map screenshot.

Please help out to improve the map and give feedback, e.g.

1. Version of map played
2. Number of players, time played, strategies chosen etc.
3. Are the recources OK?
4. How is gameplay?
5. What can be improved?

 -- cosmetic changes for playtest release

Revision 4 (old):
 -- Oil Derricks now have heavy armor and 1500 health.

Revision 3 (old):
 -- added 1 additional oil derrick to the middle left/right islands
 -- increased ore production on home islands by 20% (4 ore drill -> 5 ore drills)

Pllaytest 2 (old):
 -- added two more small islands 
 -- increased amount of recource production on home islands by 25%
 -- made oil dericks tough to destroy and repairalbe (normal repair and engineer)

Fun map..

Hard to take out an island if your soviet and opponent got many helis...

Yes, this is true.

Thanks for Zypres, Dom, Hax, Overkill, Scott and all others for giving this map some extensive playtests. All in all, this map seems to play very well, giving the player some nifty naval engagements, landing operations and capture missions. The central island of a huge importance at the beginning of the game. Still, the small islands can give some good side income, since the total amount of oil derricks is 12 on this map.

I posted an updated version (revision 3) on the forums. Enjoy!
