Redalert Shrinking the size of the soviet sub
The standard soviet sub has allways been a bit cumbersome and bulky. I think its worth considering shrinking the size of the standard sub by about 20% so that it is in better proportion with the rest of the ships in the game.
Pro's
Better visual proportions
Far less Naval Traffic jams at Sub pens & chokepoints
It would help the missile sub stand out graphically
It would by default, give the standard sub greater agility than the missile sub
The simple greyed out graphics are less time consuming to edit than a tank or plane
Con's
The sub stats might have to be nerfed slightly as more compact formations have a bigger punch per square inch. Subs are allready slightly overpowered.
It would slightly change the feel of the original game....but in a good way, naval warfare becoming more natural and fluid.
*Would require change of code
It can be done and IF done well, it will at last, remove a longstanding minor glitch in gameplay and visual asthetics....but it MUST be done well
I come from the school of if it aint broke dont fix it. However in this case im quite sure the original creators of Redalert would of shrunk the standard sub by 20% if they had more time to polish it.
ADDED
The graphics for the standard sub and the missile sub would benefit from a tweak, just to make the two units stand out from each other.
This can be done without re coding the way they move.

I guess thats the limitations of the original system. Infantry use different code, as you can have 5 stand and shoot from a single tile.
There are other code methods. From what youve said changing the way they move would require a re code. Ive added that to the cons list.
Naval units would benefit more than land vehicles. Their length width ratio causing visual overlaps and 'turn on the spot' issues. Traffic jams at sea are more annoying than on land.
