How about making a variable for the ore harvester searching range so that it reflects the differences in maps?
It could be that each map is manually specified an ore range, or it could be calculated by some empirical formula such as:
Search_range = Fudge_factor*(Average_ore_to_ore_distance)
So that given a map, the harvester doesn't stray far from the distance to the next ore patch whilst still going to nearby ones that may cluster in main bases etc.
As it currently stands, a fixed number causes havoc for small maps and very large team maps is the issue where ores don't move around enough.
