Sunstroke is THE best 3 players map. I can see that you've intentionally added water, so even naval battles are possible (nobody has figured it out yet, though). And I also like how carefully spawns are placed. I don't like FFA, but this map is an exception! Would love to see it in the default map pool.

Agreed!. Added it to the github map suggestion list a few weeks ago for playtesting. It exceeded all expectations :)

Sup guys!
Here are the new maps that I had made for the map contest :)

Nine Lives (9 players)
Size: 128x128
http://resource.openra.net/maps/15161/

Image

So I ended up making two 3v3v3 maps because I figured it would be something fun and different. Of the two, this one was the most carefully planned and I think it is the most balanced (allthough it's probably not exactly tournament material but hey, it's a 9 player map what do you expect  ). Of each team, the 2 flanking players have direct access to water: 1 player to one of the outside lakes, and 1 player to one of the middle lakes.

Hypothermia (9 players)
Size: 128x128
http://resource.openra.net/maps/15160/

Image

The process of creating the other 9 player map went more along the lines of 'I'm just going to do a lot of random stuff and hope the end result is nice'. Allthough I tried to make it so that the starting locations are all completely different, each player does have direct access to water: per team 2 players have access to the outside waters and 1 player has access to a lake in the middle.
Also, this was the map on which this epicness happened:

(gifs by Anjew and Kyrylo :) )

Both of these maps can of course also be played as 2v2v2 or as 3v3 with the third team's position becoming an interesting expansion opportunity.

Nine Lives could even be played as FFA if you have no more than 6 players (otherwise, if you would use the starting positions on the center of each team, the build radiuses would overlap).

Imminent Destruction (12 players)
Size: 128x128
http://resource.openra.net/maps/15159/

And then there's a 12 player map because why not? Just make sure everyone's latency is green and you're good to go :D
I purposly decided to only place 8 derricks to create a situation where team members have to take different responsibilities, but of course you can always play a 4v4 if you really want everyone to be able to get some oil - and so that there's less chance for lag ;)

Love these large maps! All got great design and playability. I actually voted for Hypothermia because of it's complexity and yes, it's nice the way Naval is implemented. Btw, the cliff work, where sea and landcliffs are placed pretty realistic is nicely done.

If my internet connection would allow it, I'd love to play some large FFA games on these maps! :drunk:

Thanks guys ! :D

I've uploaded a new map:

Ebb Tide (6 players)

Size: 100x100
http://resource.openra.net/maps/15417/

Image

I wanted to make a map that feels a bit like old classic Westwood maps like A Path Beyond, Isle of Fury, that kind of stuff. But with a bit more detailing of course :) It's an asymmetrical 3v3 map, hopefully it's fairly balanced. Hope you like it! :)

Also, I have updated the first post to now show only maps that aren't included in the official OpenRA mappool, because it was getting a bit cluttered. :)

Reverse diagonal bridges for RA would literally be a PizzaAtomica upgrade. https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/issues/12874

Stellar collection overall but I totally forgot how gorgeous map Quarantine looked like.
