I've got a steam controller and tbh it's really good for any casual or single player games, but I can never play as well as with keyboard and mouse for fps. And its a bigger gap between steam controller and mouse for rts.
I had my pc rigged to to my tv using the controller for any games for a long while, and played lots of attila total war, among other games. Total war felt comfortable once I got the buttons bound ok, but for me it was nowhere near as quick and easy as using a mouse.
