Hi guys, new player here for D2K on OpenRA. I played and owned the original Dune 2000 CD from way back when it first came out and quickly got bored with it, but just started playing it on my steam deck via OpenRA and must say that it's better than the original Westwood version, so hats off to all of you on the phenomenal work with this game!
I have a question I cannot find the answers to anywhere... I am trying to build maps, and it seems like there's no limit on a map size... Is this right? I tried making a 512x512 map and it seems like it's allowing me to, did the OpenRA engine crack the code on what Westwood could not figure out even with their mega maps back in the day? Does OpenRA's map maker have any absolutes in terms of map sizes for any of the supported games?

Re: Dune 2000
Last I saw, there is no hard limit other than the New Map dialog being capped at three digits. However, performance can degrade once the size gets extreme, and it's often better to keep maps on the tighter side for gameplay anyway.

Good to know, I guess for now I'll start with 256x256 and see how it turns out. Is there a guide somewhere on using the editor?

I am agree. Too big map can decrease playability.JovialFeline wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 12:06 amHowever, performance can degrade once the size gets extreme, and it's often better to keep maps on the tighter side for gameplay anyway.
This is rather boring — to wait while your units move across a huge map.
Especially if you have big quantity of the units.

I s'pose there's the wiki's Mapping page, though it should be pretty straightforward unless you wish to set up a mission or something else with many custom rules.
