Registrations and confirmations

To register please reply below.

2.1 New signups

2.1.1 New players have until 2022-04-21 to send the registration info.
2.1.2 Registration takes place through Discord (#ragl-signups in https://discord.gg/99zBDuS), the primary channel of communication for RAGL, or in the registrations forum thread.
2.1.3 Registration info must include the following:
  • Nickname that will be used throughout the season;
  • Country of origin and time zone expressed in UTC (see http://www.timeanddate.com);
  • OpenRA discord name (Discord is the primary channel for communication);
  • Forum name (used for game servers whitelisting).
2.1.4 Registered players are put onto Signup list. If the player sent his registration info but wasn't put onto Signup list then he should subsequently contact the officials no later than the final date.

2.2 Returning players

2.2.1 Players transferring over from the previous season have until 2022-04-21 to confirm their participation.
2.2.2 Returning players don't have to provide any other information than the expressed confirmation, officials are to request any of the above if mandatory information is missing.
2.2.3 Returning players are put onto Confirmations list in order of their performance in the previous season (see 1.1.4).

2.3 Qualifications

2.3.1 All other players (including those who were forfeit or disqualified from the previous season) are put onto Signup list in the order of appearance.
2.3.4 These players will be placed into divisions using all-time ranking from the OpenRA 1v1 Ladder, and if necessary drawing lots, for seeding.
2.3.5 Players who have been forfeit or disqualified in more seasons than they have completed will need to play some pre-season games on the ladder to be eligible to return. Players must have played 4*(incomplete - complete)² games on the ladder in the month prior to registration closing.

For example: If a player has season forfeit in 3 seasons and only completed 1 season then they must play 4*(3-1)² = 4*2² = 16 preseason ladder games to be eligible for the season.

2.4 Waiting list

2.4.1 In the event of players leaving the lowest division during first week for any reasons, vacant slots may be re-occupied by the players from Waiting list.
2.4.2 The waiting list is composed of late signups and ordered by enlisting datetime.
2.4.3 Any matches that were scheduled to be played before the player promotion from Waiting list takes place are to be played out of order until the end of the group stage (same rules as player-delayed matches).

Re: Red Alert Global League: Season 12 - Registrations

Post by TTTPPP »

Last season I did a write-up of how players ended up in the divisions that they did. I promised to do the same write-up this time around, so here it is. The first relevant part of the rules is section 1.1.4 which refers to the placement of returning players in Season 11.
1.1.4 Players are assigned to divisions according to their performance in the previous season. The ranking list is as follows:
* Players that finished above relegation spots in Masters
* Promoted players from Minions
* Relegated players from Masters
* Players that finished below promotion spots in Minions
* New signups and Disqualified/forfeited players
Note that division assignment for Season 13 will use a different system from previous seasons to ensure that the winner of Minions is promoted to Masters.

1.1.4.1 Players who competed in parallel divisions in the previous season (e.g. Minions A and Minions B) will be ranked based on their head-to-head result (if it exists), then win percentage, and then their all-time OpenRA 1v1 Ladder position.

1.1.4.2 Where necessary the all-time OpenRA 1v1 Ladder ratings will be used to order players who were tied in the previous season.
The positions from Season 11 are defined by the Season 11 rules section 1.3.2:
1.3.2 In the event of tied points at the end of the season, the players will be ranked against each other based on:
* Result of the players' current season matchup
* Total number of strikes accumulated by players (less strikes is better)
* Best-of-3 rematch (if necessary to determine prizes or playoff spots)
At the end of last season I used this rule to draw up the final standings for the group stages: viewtopic.php?f=85&t=21540 Note that the playoffs override the group stage results (in the case of Pinkthoth and Upps), but this turned out not to be relevant since Pinkthoth didn't return this season.

It's notable that there were several cases where the ordering on ragl.org and in my forum post differed (for example Sigil was below FiveAces on ragl.org). This is because the site does not contain the logic in rule 1.3.2 necessary to correctly settle tiebreaks.

Another interesting case is that anjew and Goremented were completely tied at the end Season 11 because there was no need to organise a best-of-3 rematch. Rule 1.1.4.2 puts Goremented ahead based on their RAGL ladder ratings.

Players from Minions A and B were compared using 1.1.4.1 (they were predominantly sorted by win percentage).

Season 11 also featured this version of rule 1.3.9:
1.3.9 Due to the nature of the League, actual promotions/relegations between divisions can't be defined up until the start of the next season. Relegation zone size (Masters and Minions) is set by default as approx. 30% of the maximum player count for the respective group. Promotion zone size (Minions) is set according to Masters relegation zone and the number of Minions groups. Preliminary promotion/relegation spots are set once the season is started.
Season 11 had 14 players in Masters, which results in 4 players from Minions coming directly below the top 10 players from Masters. Using this to order the full list of seventeen Season 11 players who signed up for Season 12 we get:

Code: Select all

Upps (1463)
Mr Cloudy (1559)
Goremented (1375)
anjew (1365)
Sigil (1179)
Kaution (1322)
Gajcus (1414)
Eugenator (1349)
maceman (1302)
FiveAces (1241)

Ekanim (1158)
DukeBones (1114)
worldpeace (1012)
Dodder (1123)
Nilhall (843)
TTTPPP (917)
We also had fifteen players on the Signup list. These players are put into divisions according to rule 2.3.4:
2.3.4 These players will be placed into divisions using all-time ranking from the OpenRA 1v1 Ladder, and if necessary drawing lots, for seeding.
Sorting the players according to their rankings on the 18th of April we get:

Code: Select all

Blackened (1446)
despro (1313)
Jur (1147)
Tux (1130)
Margot Honecker (1064)
Azure Anemone (986)

Overall there are 32 players which splits well into three divisions (the most even split being 11, 11 and 10). This gave the initial divisions which I published on 2022-04-22:
Masters
Upps (1463)
Mr Cloudy (1559)
Blackened (1446)
Goremented (1375)
anjew (1365)
Sigil (1179)
Kaution (1322)
Gajcus (1414)
Eugenator (1349)
despro (1313)
Unano (1302)

Minions
FiveAces (1241)
Mo (1125)
Ekanim (1158)
Jur (1147)
Tux (1130)
DukeBones (1114)
worldpeace (1012)
Dodder (1123)
Margot Honecker (1064)
Azure Anemone (986)
Nilhall (843)

Recruits
TTTPPP (917)
milkman (890)
BeTe (814)
spetsnaz84 (787)
Leaf (674)
Mees (662)
chouchani (163)
RobLoweEscobar (0)
jawsh (0)

Before the season started there were a couple of further changes to this. First Azure Anemone requested to be transferred to Recruits. This was a reasonable request since their rating was based on only two games and so they were swapped with TTTPPP (the highest ranked player in Recruits).

The other change was that Kaution decided to pull out for personal reasons (see his Discord for more details). This then resulted in the highest player from Minions (FiveAces) and Recruits (Milkman) being bumped up a division. Conveniently Tailix Killa Mentor had signed up late and was able to move from the Wait List to fill the vacant spot in Recruits.

The final divisions ended up looking like:
Masters
Upps (1463)
Mr Cloudy (1559)
Blackened (1446)
Goremented (1375)
anjew (1365)
Sigil (1179)
Gajcus (1414)
Eugenator (1349)
despro (1313)
Unano (1302)
FiveAces (1241)

Minions
Mo (1125)
Ekanim (1158)
Jur (1147)
Tux (1130)
DukeBones (1114)
worldpeace (1012)
Dodder (1123)
Margot Honecker (1064)
Nilhall (843)
TTTPPP (917)
milkman (890)

Recruits
Azure Anemone (986)
BeTe (814)
spetsnaz84 (787)
Tailix Killa Mentor (786)
Leaf (674)
Mees (662)
chouchani (163)
RobLoweEscobar (0)
jawsh (0)
WalterWh (0)
I hope to introduce a modified system for assigning people to divisions for Season 13, and I will give a proposal in a future post. The idea will be to preserve the principles of the existing system (performance in the previous season is important and new players can be seeded appropriately), but it will hopefully handle some edge cases a bit more gracefully.
