Fransbot 20250702
Additional bots for OpenRA Red Alert 20250330.
In addition to the standard ”Rush AI, Normal, Turtle AI, and Navy AI,” you get 6 more bots to fight against.
Battle bots, which use engineers, thieves, medics, technicians, and even Tanya!
All bots have distinct build orders and attack squads with a broader selection of units and smarter use of atomic bombs… All of them expand, which makes them much more resilient on larger maps and in late games.
The bots beat the default AIs on a regular basis.
There are no ”bonuses” or cheats for these bots—only tweaked base building, unit building, and economic handling. All for maximum skirmish fun!
Start by making yourself a copy of the "ra" folder typically found in "C:\Program Files\OpenRA\mods\ra."
Install by downloading and replacing the folders and files in the "ra" folder found in the fransbots.zip file. A total of 19 files in 3 folders. If done correctly, you will be greeted by the message "Fransbots enabled!" in the skirmish lobby together with a short description of each bot.
In order to play with your friends, they also need to have the bots installed. Keep in mind you will not be able to play "normal" multiplayer games or other scenarios while these bots are installed. - That is why I recommend having two "ra" folders so you can easily rename them depending on what you want to play.
The Fransbot "family" consists of;
”Air AI”
Attack: Frequent small, well-rounded forces with assistance from air. Targeting Harvesters and Construction Yards.
Early game: Normally starts with an engineer trying to capture construction yards or oil derricks.
Navy: Small
Captures: Yes, factories, harvesters, oil derricks, etc.
Mines: Yes
Base expanding: Medium
”Horde AI”
Attack: mainly soldiers, rockets, and artillery; waves after waves...
Early game: Focus on pumping out basic units as soon as possible.
Navy: Small
Captures: Yes, oil derricks.
Mines: No
Base expanding: Slow
”Base AI”
Attack: Keeps the units home, mostly defending, but left alone, it will attack with great force.
Early game: Focus on economics to get defense and MCV in the mid-game.
Navy: Small
Thieves: Yes for oil derricks.
Mines: Yes
Base expanding: Fast
”Tech AI”
Attack: Small forces of high-end units.
Early game: Focus on economics to support all the high-tech units and buildings later on.
Navy: Small
Captures: Yes, oil derricks.
Mines: Yes
Base expanding: Slow
”Raid AI”
Attack: Constant with small forces.
Early game: Focus on pumping out engineers and thieves to claim and capture buildings. This bot normally does not survive in the long run, but it is a great bot as a team member or as a secondary opponent.
Navy: Yes
Captures: Yes, oil derricks.
Mines: Oh, yes!
Base expanding: Fast
”Fleet AI”
Attack: Mostly from the sea…
Early game: Well-rounded base builder mostly defending until the navy has deployed.
Navy: Yes..
Captures: Yes, oil derricks.
Mines: Yes.
Base expanding: Medium
Have fun, and let me know if you think about the bots! Which is hardest to beat?
