How do I design a map better for AI's doing Naval battles?

I made a map.
https://resource.openra.net/maps/39698

The spawn spots are a little cramped and not too much ore --- which plays how I like.

However, there are a couple spawn spots where I want the AI player to use Naval. And they don't. They might build a Sub or Shipyard but won't build many units and won't attack with them. If I set the AI to Naval it plays particularly poorly, seems to do nothing.

I've played Rush and Naval AI's that will attack using subs or ships on other maps. Is it something about my map design that's preventing the AI from effective Naval?

Any tips on designing maps better for AI?

Thanks!

Your map is fine, try playing with normal AI, they tend to build navy aswell.

By the way Ive fixed all of the cliffs, the water cliffs, and the beaches for you, now ill fix the river bridge and then upload the map here.

I just did an ore variation: switching the ore to the jewel ore with more. This gets the AIs doing better with Naval. I think it's just having their economy to take advantage of build.

This seems to work better, but I kept the older one around because sometimes I like to play with less ore.

Ok, I see that looks better. Is the the collision detection different for certain spots, or just aesthetic? I just made change above using my old edit ^.

well its is mostly aesthetic, but aesthetics and terrain collision go hand in hand in cliffs.
