OpenHV

Post by Matt »

I started a new mod project OpenHV. It is a sci-fi themed RTS using most of its artwork from the unreleased Hard Vacuum game. The assets fall under the liberal Creative Commons Attribution license. Sounds are .wav and sprites are loaded from .png files so it uses open standards where possible, which also eases the development.

The game is still very much work in progress. No release yet.

Interesting, the HV graphics look a lot like Rusted Warfare, so might have been used in a game already.

What is the aim of your mod?

Yes, Rusted Warfare uses the same terrain tiles. They should mention somewhere that it's from Daniel Cook.

The main goal is to have a game with Open Source assets both sound and graphics. It should also not be a bland CnC clone, but distinguish itself. Some bigger features inspired by the unreleased original are:
  • supply lines for resource gatherings
  • dynamic water/lava
  • Starcraft like teleporters

That sounds and looks awesome! Thanks for sharing. I have Rusted Warfare on my phone and yes, similar clean art style.

Love it. Definitely needs a flying carrot that shoots nuclear carrots as an epic unit!

The game saw its first release

on https://openhv.itch.io/openhv with support for https://itch.io/app and automatic updates
and via https://github.com/OpenHV/OpenHV/releases with regular installers

Image

It got 4 maps by now. Still pretty low. If you make a decent one, chances are high I include it with the next release.

We crafted an update based on your feedback. If you got it from https://openhv.itch.io/openhv via the https://itch.io/app it should update automatically. Installers are also available on https://github.com/OpenHV/OpenHV/releases/tag/20200920 this time also with experimental macOS .dmg images.
