Crossfire Mod for Red Alert

I am a Pakistani and have been a fan of Command and Conquer series for a long time now. I recently came across OpenRA and loved it thoroughly and was surprised at how easy it was to modify the game.

Pakistan and India have had 4 wars already and we both have our own war heroes. Since our stories are never actually told, most gamers want the two sides duke it out in RTS games. But I also want to emphasize the loss of civilian lives in such a conflict.

And so we come to the Crossfire mod which you can grab from here:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/772 ... ssfire.zip

First of all, a disclaimer. I have created this mod to be played freely and have used assets from different people and mods. Some notable mentions are:
RA - Entrenched
RA - Tiberium Origins
RA - Tacora
Raminator
CombineC
Petrenko
and maybe some other people who I might have missed.
  • The mod replaces and removes a few units and tries to re-balance the existing units.
  • There are no defensive structures except for barriers, so you need to use your units for defense
  • Both sides have access to nukes, spy planes and paratroopers
  • Prices have been reduced to encourage a faster game pace
  • Both sides have almost the same infantry units
  • Both sides have light, medium and heavy tanks
  • Both sides have long range units that behave differently
  • Both sides have scout units whose main purpose is to provide vision
  • Light vehicles are deadly versus infantry which has increased their utility
  • Capacity of transport units have been increased to support surprise infantry attacks
  • No high tech weaponry as I found that to be out of place in this mod
Emphasis is on long range artillery/rockets, huge infantry rushes and using air units as well.

Future additions include:
  1. Creating proper unit icons
  2. Adding new sounds
  3. Possibly adding new music
  4. Single player campaign missions
  5. Multiplayer maps
  6. Replacing unit models
  7. Re-balancing obviously
Any help I can get in doing this will be greatly appreciated.

All the build options are shown in this pic. Need someone to make proper icons for the units

Features:
  • Both sides can build helipads and Airfields
  • No defensive structures except walls
  • Both side have almost the same infantry units except for...Pakistan has thief and spy while India has dog
  • supply truck carries 15 infantry units
  • both sides have light medium and heavy tanks
  • both sides have medium and long range artillery
  • both sides have anti aricraft units
  • On low tech you get a propeller driven reconnaissance aircraft and a low cost Air superiority aircraft
  • medium tech gives you a heavy bomber
  • high tech gives you a fighter bomber
  • both sides have submarines and long range submarines/cruisers. Their range is freakishly long so watch out
  • No GPS or sci-fi units
  • Paradrops give you 12 infantry
  • The strategy to follow is to use your scouting units for setting up ambushes or act as spotters for long range units
  • infantry is very cheap so infantry can play a large part in doing ambushes or full frontal attack
  • All units might appear the same but there are slight differences and proper balancing is needed. However, this is still a fun mod to play.
there are new unit sounds but they need a lot of rework.

If you need help with getting text on the icons, I can churn them out like nobody's business when I have nothing else to do.

Already learned that but thank you

Thank you, but I already found out how that can be done easily. I even wrote a wiki entry about it that you can see here. I have been updating the wiki here and there for it to be more useful.

What I would really love right now is to get hold of a few more models (Not happy with tanks on the Indian side) and people to test it out and post their experiences here.

I would also appreciate if people can test it for balance.

nice

Nice work with new units..

I played the (only) map, and did not find a way to finish it.
Please also make the voices a little higher next time..
And make sure the "neutral" are set on oil etc...

Nice work.

Voices have been fixed somewhat but since I am not good with audacity, I do not know how to make them sound really good

They are all in Urdu and Hindi, so if you might not be able to understand them

The single player campaign maps are on hold and will be made once the new OpenRA release comes. There are a few lua issues and I want to use the new methodology. I was getting a few issues and asked the developers for help. They told me to wait.

You can however test both sides in skirmish

And thank you for checking it out

This mission is all about stopping waves of enemies for 10 minutes. It is quite challenging, but can be done.
