please take a look at Ares, a large 240x96 map for combined arms warfare. Both ship and land asset play a vital role to secure ore and oil recources spread out on the map. Note that it is imperative for maps like these not to neglect naval forces.
Ares Revision 2
The southern part of the map features land warfare and the space for base building. On the northern half of the map a chain of island can be found that allow the building of remote shipyard and oil derricks. Note that the smallest islands do not allows the placement of construction yards. Most if not all of the landmass should be reachable by heavy ship ordnonance. Player starting positions are marked in white.
The following changes have been made to the rules to improve gameplay:
-- Oil Derricks have a lot (1500) of hitpoints, heavy armor, can be repaired with both building repairs and engineers. The best way to destroy them is artillery and C4.
-- Mine layer effectivity has been reduced. The AT minelayer has 1 mine per load, the AP minelayer has 2 mines per load.
Please give feedback on gameplay, version of the map used, number of players etc. Were there enough recources? Any problems with gameplay?
Revision 3 (current):
-- cosmetic changes for playtest bundle release
Revision 2 (oldt):
-- Oil derricks have heavy armor and 1500 health.
-- added some "bay" so players can rebuild their navy easier.
-- fixed starting positions
-- removed some disturbing trees.
Revision 1 (old):
-- initial playtest
Yep. Thanks also to the other guinea pigs for fooling around.
Some notes: Do not forget give out some chocolate to Your navy. Once you get locked out of the water, You star is falling. Do not forget give out some chocolate to You land forces either, as they can bring You a quick victory. Naval maps like these are tricky to play.
