RA - How do I add the Ultimate AI to my own maps?

Hi,

I absolutely love the ultimate AI and gives me the challenge I need when playing skirmish against bots.

How do I add this to my own maps (for personal use only)? I have tried extracting one of the ultimate maps and bundling the files with my own map and changing the files to suit, but I keep struggling with it.

Could anyone help me with this please?

Hi.
You first search your directory where the .oramap files are located.
The <mapname>.oramap is a .zip file, you can extract it.

Inside the map.yaml at the bottom, you can include several other files with configurations, units, menu options, and .lua files.
.lua is a script loaded by the main program, and executed every 'tick'.

Look for maps with the ultimate a.i. you prefer.
For some examples check:

That has also toxic selection you prefer.

You need to copy all the files in the .oramap file into a dir, add the map.yaml, map.bin, and map.png file from your map.
Then edit the map.yaml, and add the same files like at the bottom of the map.yaml of the example with the ultimate ai script.
Save it, or pack it into a .zip file and rename .zip to .oramap.
A map can be in the maps dir of openra as a .oramap file, or unpacked. Like you also can select with the build in map editor.

I can do it for you, if you give me the map you want to include the ultimate a.i., and the location of the original map with the ultimate ai.
There are some 'poop toxic' maps that include the ultimate a.i. as well a toxic selector for different toxic settings.
Search on the resource center for: 'UTP', 'poop', or 'ultimate'. You will find some.

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried adding the bits that make up the ultimate AI to my own map, but it doesn't seem to work once the game is running.

I think the ultimate AI is sort of programmed to the Ultimate maps because there's also a second MCV? I'm not sure. Would love to see you add it to my map, then I should be able to figure it out for future maps myself.

I created the Ultimate AI maps and they are specifically designed for the maps they are on, they have actually been play tested with the relevant amount of players and the difficulty settings work as well as toxic mode option

The ones where someone just takes then tries to reuse them often do a bad job integrating them and nobody ends up playing them as they are so bad to play. There have also been various updates required for things to work but these aren't done on the maps where they just took the code, so many bugs exists.

If someone has a popular map that wants it integrated properly into then I can look into doing it so that it works not some botch job that doesn't work well.

Hi Melons, thanks for your response. I was afraid that might be the answer! I do love your maps, the only thing I'd say is that I would like to see a more open map, normally you have the chokepoints in the middle of a map. I would like to see one without such a chokepoint. Perhaps ore gardens would be a good one for ultimate AI? Or otherwise Europe, but I think the AI might struggle on the islands? These are both very popular maps right now.
