RA DOS infantry

Post by Tyler Adams »

The RA DOS infantry sprites looked alot better (plus more to scale) than the RA95 infantry ORA uses, (which were resized (horrifically) for RA95) and I was hoping someone'd already ported them over to ORA. Anyone know anything about that? Or how I could port them myself?

Also, ohi, long time no see, I have returned, etc.

If you have the tools and original RA files, you can extract all the infantry SHP's as individual files (SHP format of course) and throw them in the 'bits' folder.

I do this myself, as the resized infantry just look... shit. And they're misleading, regarding the units' on-screen size compared to their in-game selection boundaries.

The only problem will be with new infantry that ORA uses (at the moment, this is only the Sniper); obviously, these won't have original DOS graphics, and will look freakishly huge next to any DOS SHP's.

That's it? Just rip em from RA1 + drop them in the folder? Awesome. I might actually do that and remake a sprite for the sniper.

Yep, that's all there is to it. The biggest obstacle is being sure to rip every SHP necessary to avoid having the occasional appearance of a lumpy, misshapen mutant soldier blight the battlefield. It's also probably quite simple to resize the Sniper unit too, if my bright idea works as intended (it probably won't though).

Infantry can be scaled up, but I'm not sure it'd scale down and look pretty.

There's a RA small infantry pack at C&C Communications Center, but I don't know if it works with OpenRA. Here's que link:
