Is OpenRA a good way to experience the singleplayer of the games for the first time?

Hi guys! Pretty much title, I have been wanting to play the original CnC games for a while and only recently heard about this project. Is it a good way to experience mostly singleplayer and a little but of multiplayer? Are these the same games as the originals with some improvements? Thanks!

OpenRA is a different engine entirely and is closer to a remake. It's flexible (which helps games like Combined Arms) but quite a few campaign maps are missing until they can be rebuilt. There are not many people on that part of the project at the moment.

Not too long ago, EA and Petroglyph released a remaster for Command and Conquer 1 and Red Alert 1 that seems well-received and often on sale (including right now as I look at it).

If you wish to experience the full campaigns as they were (more or less), CnCNZ has a page about EA's freeware releases that can lead you to full installers for CnC1, RA1, and Tiberian Sun that are patched for current hardware. There may be a learning curve with the mouse controls where left-click is used for almost everything but deselection. Tiberian Sun may be finicky with borderless fullscreen but it should be otherwise fine. If you are interested in multiplayer strictly for the originals, there is CnCNet.

If you want to play the original Dune 2000 campaign in its entirety, the GruntMods installer is a fine route unless tracking down a retail CD and patching it up is your usual way of playing oldies.

Well.. im going to state it probably isnt. The campaigns are clearly made with a different balance in mind, playing them with the OpenRA's improved ruleset is going to produce unintended side-effects when it comes to how are you going to handle situations and solve problems. This can have effects that can range from rendering a scenario harder than it ever has any right to be, or more often make it easy to the point of becoming rather meaningless.
