How many AIs = 1 human?

Hi all, I am no gamer, but I like a few games, and this is one of them. I watch the casts and envy the players on the OpenRA scene, who are evidently much better than me in every way. How good would I have to get before I could stand against them? I play against teams of AIs recreationally, and 4 or 5 at once are about my limit, depending on the map, the luck of the spawns etc. A team of 4 (one of each kind) often beats me. I've heard the top players can beat the AI with no trouble at all, which makes sense - but what about decent starting players? Do you have to be beating AIs consistently to even think about playing against other human players?

The problem with playing against AI as preparation for playing against humans is that they simply don't play similarly at all. Playing against a large number AI may have some benefits, such as encouraging you to keep producing units, and allowing you to practice build orders or unit compositions, but ultimately the best way to improve as a player is to play against other people (and watch back your games!). You'll lose plenty to begin with, but if you go into it with a healthy mindset then you will improve quickly.

That does make sense. I suspected it might not be comparable in that way.

What the reply mentioned above is correct the AI is best for practicing build orders and producing maximum units etc but the AI won't behave anything like a human opponent and it won't prepare you for a multiplayer game at all. It takes practice and experience to be competent against human opponents but the academy is helpful because it shows you what other players have learnt aswell as teaching you the basics. I recommend watching good replays of good players in 1v1 games. 1v1 games are usually the most competitive if you want to see the highest skill levels you can see their replays. I got better by watching replays and just as important is watching your own replays to see where you went wrong or what you could do better and what your enemy was doing. Set your game to record all replays just incase it isn't already. You will soon be able to put up a good fight against good players then before long you will start getting wins. Every player improves at their own pace though depending on skill and effort.
