Can't connect to servers/forum in-game

Hi,
I've just installed openra and registered on the forum. I've then tried to connect to the forum in-game (having copied and pasted the authentication key from the game into the authentication key part of the control panel), but now just get a message in the top-left of the openra screen saying:
"Failed to connect to the OpenRA forum. Please check your internet connection."
Internet connection is fine (I'm writing this here), so I tried going through the FAQ. Saw the mention of making sure you have up-to-date version of Mono, so installed that. Still the same error message. Also, if I click on Multiplayer I get a message "Failed to query server list".
I'm running all this in Ubuntu 18.04. Any ideas on what to try next?
