Snipers?

I was testing a map I made that featured Creep Snipers and I couldn't find any of them. At first I thought, oh god! Do they have stealth abilities? So I tried sending vehicles to fire all over the general areas I placed them but, turned up nothing.

So do Creep Snipers despawn or are they invisible?

I believe the snipers are stealthed. If you play the game with debug mode on you can reveal the shroud entirely so you can see stealth units. This way you can test to see if they will fire or if they despawned.

Stealth units naturally will not open fire unless they have been decloaked.

I see. I wanted to place them by captureable civilian structures but, they seemed pretty docile.
Are there any things that could provoke them outside of being decloaked?

Seems like no. Their initial stance is "HoldFire", so they should only attack when order by the player to do so.

That's a shame. I was hoping to use them for thick forest maps as obstacles.

I'm pretty sure you can change the default stance in .yaml files.
