Weather effects

Post by zinc »

Some pretty good weather effects have been created in modified maps. Any chance they get built into the game proper? Imo they deserve to be.

The weather effects are already built into the game proper. If they weren't, then those maps wouldn't be able to use them!

How are they activated? How simple is it?

First off, you need to save your map as unzipped.
Then, open your map.yaml and add "Rules: rules.yaml" at the very end - this will tell the game to use a custom rules set for this map.

Now you need to create said rules file - simply create a text document and save it as rules.yaml.

In this file, you type "
World:
WeatherOverlay:"

with indentations(!) (the engine can't read it otherwise).

After introducing WeatherOverlay, you can set all sorts of rules for it that can be found on the github page
(mind you, the rules need an extra indentation and each rule needs a seperate line).

That's pretty much it!
Save the files, open the map in the editor, and save it as .oramap
(the engine is capable of compressing both your map file and the rules into a single .oramap).

- If there was lightning, clustering shock troopers together could have some interesting/comical side effects.
- Spies could be more difficult to spot in heavy rain
- arty fire could be blown around in heavy wind
- Hurricanes would suck up troops and light vehicles
- Accuracy could be diminished in the rain
- Tanks could get stuck in the mud during rain/snow

It would be ni e if these weather effects came at intervals throughout the game (specified in he map code) rather than being continuous throughout.

Much like Ion Storms in TS
The un-offical addon for Tiberian Sun
