Pricing of flame tower and pillbox

Post by lucassss »

It seems like most players would agree that pillbox is either better or equal to pillbox in utility, why does pillbox cost 400 and flame tower cost 600?

Because the flame tower does a lot of damage over a little time. Pillbox damage is constant and is only as good as long as you can keep it alive. You can get enough rocket/shock infantry that there will be few losses when tackling a pillbox but a flame tower will almost always get 1 or two fireballs out before it goes down which will likely take out roughly 5 infantry. Flame towers get better as the game goes on because of this but pillboxes get worse.

Flame towers also deal much more damage to armored targets than pillboxes. I.e. compare a light tank vs. a flame tower and a light tank vs. a pillbox.

Also worth noting the flametower gives you access to flametech

I think the allied pillbox is often superior to the soviet flameturret, because it never misses infantry and fires quicker. Making them more similarly priced makes sense IMHO.

As an example, just try to beat 17 bots as a Soviet player on this map and notice the difference:

Even if you don't use the arties, it is easier to spam the allied turrets and chew through approaching armies.

I think im correct in saying that Pillboxes are comparitivly weak when attacking buildings.

Be interesting to see a battle between 3 basic pillboxes and two flame turrets

anyone got the full stat line for both ?, might be worth posting here for comparison
