You need to be careful about letting the bounty on this get *too* large. Features with giant bounties (and correspondingly giant expectations) are unlikely to be completed. The number of people with enough understanding and time to implement complicated features is very small, and they tend to have their own priorities rather than the bounties.

Consider the TS/RA2 engine support ticket: it had a $1600 bounty, but it took me two and a half years to finish the work required to claim it. That's a really crap return on investment for anybody motivated by money, and nobody in their right mind would take it on unless they had their own motivation for working on it. A $50 bounty for something that might take a weekend's work is much more attractive for everyone.

Thanks a lot for that input Sleipnir. I've never thought about it that way. The bounty's gonna be juicy but I'll try not to get the bounty too high  The relevant issue is possibly tedious and there's still a few unresolved design issues, mentioned above, which also needs input from the community at large, thus hopefully alleviating pressure for assigned coders to work within a set schedule.

I started this initiative to motivate efforts into the issue. I feel we have all the time in the world and I would hope that the sum total bounty comes of more as an indicator of excitement rather than a price tag for an expected product. With that said I've got a good feeling about this one :)

Update: We have a possible solution for Tiberian Dawn's extensive production tab :D see bottom of issue: https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/issues/5121

It's time for the final bump in order to remind everyone of the deadline of 20th November (1 week!) of which I'll be matching every contribution to bountysource from others on this issue. The current standing is $105 / $200 (Issue currently stands with $175 including my previous bounties)

Dig deep!

A small leak while we bump this thread: The production tab has been made to work with an un-clickable transparent background. Meaning it already closely resembles the initial mockup images that inspired the issue and bounty! Decided against posting a shared .gif for this to avoid spreading expectations on it being completed any time soon :)

...but it exists :zip:

I think for specs, it would also be nice to have ping on map, and later draw on map.
If we could make spec-chat, that would also be nice, since I would also enjoy someone pinging the broadcasters, and saying, look there, lol, he is going to win etc...

This is kind of unrelated to the thread. However there's some work done on a separate spec chat: https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/pull/9639 You could suggest additional features there as well.

Cheers

All right peeps, time's up;) $105 has been added to the bounty, thanks to lagsucks, noobmapmaker and reach for their support! This issue is now #1 on bountysource's list in terms of $$$ :D

If you missed out on the deadline, please consider still to support the issue either by commenting, telling your friends about it or post bounties (that now doesn't break my bank  ).

I should take this opportunity to also also ask everyone to chip in on their favorite active issues on Github in order to support the developers, spending their free time continuously to work on OpenRA.

Cheers!

RiderRockon's mockup looks fantastic. I can't wait for this, going to really add to the spectating experience.

Any of the devs actively working on it yet? I'm probably wrong, but it seems like it'd be easy-ish to implement.

Sorry, late reply but a good opportunity to bump the thread:)

Penev is currently looking into this, and has come a long way to make it feasable. It turned out to be a tough job given the way the menu is currently working, and we're aiming high as in SC2-like quality to the production tab 8)

He's also remaking the design of the statistics tab in general as well so it's a lot of work. This is why I'm plugging bountysource on this issue. It's not really gonna pay in terms of work-hours but it's helpful nevertheless.

Age of kings and Lords of the realm II have some interesting and usefull statistics and replay features.

'Greatest Noble' etc Lotr II Lords of the Realm II is perhaps the most 'enchanting' RTS ever created

I was hoping one day I'd get to bump this thread again! Last post Dec 26, 2015 :)

Just a disclaimer, with the following PR there's no guarantee it will move forward towards being merged with the developer branch.

Having said that, rob-v has posted a PR: https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/pull/13023

adressing: https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/issues/5121

Reason I've been so excited about this the past couple of years is the potential promotional value OpenRA could reap by having a clean, non-intrusive info tab system.

A small analytics code that I made to see which units were more effective. This may be remotely related.

That is beyond me but if you think it could benefit a mention on the issue ticket https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/issues/5121 then feel free to do so!

Shout out to rob-v! It's great seeing someone come in and spend so much effort making other people's ideas come to life.

I can think of no better one-hit wonder to appease the oragods with.
