Online game?

Just playing against AI?

If it's online then it may be nothing to do with your own machine. If you are playing against the computer... the only thing I can think of was maybe your PC had background tasks that slowed it down...

Were you building walls? There seems to be a consensus that building a concrete wall will lag a game. I'm not sure if that's a legit thing, but it seems to be widely accepted at the moment.

The next playtest release will dramatically improve (and in some – but not all – cases completely fix) the repeating lag spikes that happen in the late game.

sometimes the most annoying lag happened when you forgot to "disable antivirus protection".

Sure, some of them have gamer mode, but there's nothing more annoying when your antivirus suddenly download something from the internet due to perceived 'inactivity'

I find that after about 25 minutes, the game is lagging as the AI is trying to build and place buildings when it is unable to, putting itself into a loop (shipyard/subpen is the usual culprit). As a test, I altered the AI so it wouldn't build anything naval, seemed to do the trick (for that particular issue). As far as I am aware, it is a known "bug".

That is one of the bugs that has now been fixed (while still retaining the ability to use naval).

playtest-20150808 is now available with the performance fixes I mentioned above. Please let us know if the problems persist.
