Arnoud are you completely retarded? Everyone knows you dont install windows 8 unless you want to f**k up your computer!!
You are the dumbest f**k I have ever seen in the history of red alert.. and that is a long time!!
Im really glad you cant play anymore because you dont deserve it!!! youre a n00b! Keep watching porn or buy a playstation because red alert isnt ment to be for you!!

Just throw your computer out of the window...

I restructured our https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/wiki/FAQ to put the what to do when the game crashes up front.

Looks like we need some kind of code of conduct for the forums now and moderate it accordingly. *sigh*

To put this topic back on-track, I recently installed Windows 8 and seem to be having a similar problem.

Here's my exception.log:

(Release 20121019)
Exception of type `System.InvalidProgramException`: Unsupported GPU. See graphics.log for details.
at OpenRA.Renderer.SdlCommon.SdlGraphics.InitializeSdlGl(Size& size, WindowMode window, String[] requiredExtensions)
at OpenRA.Renderer.Glsl.GraphicsDevice..ctor(Size size, WindowMode window)
at OpenRA.Renderer.Glsl.DeviceFactory.Create(Size size, WindowMode windowMode)
at OpenRA.Graphics.Renderer.CreateDevice(Assembly rendererDll, Int32 width, Int32 height, WindowMode window)
at OpenRA.Graphics.Renderer.Initialize(WindowMode windowMode)
at OpenRA.Game.Initialize(Arguments args)
at OpenRA.Program.Run(String[] args)
at OpenRA.Program.Main(String[] args)

And my graphics.log:

Unsupported GPU: Missing extensions: GL_ARB_vertex_shader,GL_ARB_fragment_shader,GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object

OpenGL Information:
Vendor: Microsoft Corporation
Renderer: GDI Generic
GL Version: 1.1.0
Shader Version:
Available extensions:
GL_WIN_swap_hint GL_EXT_bgra GL_EXT_paletted_texture
Anyone have any ideas for what I should do?

You need to install the full-featured graphics driver supplied by your graphics card manufacturer (either Intel, Nvidia, or ATI/AMD).

The drivers that ship with windows don't support OpenGL (the 3d graphics API used by OpenRA and pretty much everything else outside the windows ecosystem).

I had the same problems even with installing the newest drivers to my Geforce graphic adapter.
I solved the problem by updating my Avast Antivirus to the newest version and updated Windows 8 with Windows Update. In Windows 8, updates from Windows Update may be install by selecting Update and restart under Settings

Windows update seems to also pull graphics card drivers nowadays if you are lucky, but I still recommend to get the latest ones from http://www.nvidia.com and http://ww.intel.com
