Red Alert - Running out of money.

Post by epice »

One large problem in Red Alert is running out of money on the map. Nobody has any money and the game just drags on as.

How do we fix this?

Someone proposed to allow more nuclear missiles at once. https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/issues/2515 I think this is a problem mappers should address.

Be more efficient with your units. Super weapons such as a missile silo are game changers. Locked stalemates can turn into wins in a matter of 8 mins.

Maybe some kind of sudden death system existed?

How about a new building like the Supply Drop Zone in C&C Generals?

This building is slowly generating credits (every 2 minutes) as long as it got power

I'VE GOT IT!

Make a building that can be placed onto the mineshaft that will cause ore to be generated at a much faster rate, along with a chance for gems to pop up.

Apparently, but they're not on every map.

Seriously though, the limited resources are part of the gameplay. Managing your economy is what makes a difference between good and bad players in a longer game; allowing what's essentially infinite money doesn't make the game better at all. Ore 'regenerates' as it is anyway, so what's the real complaint?

If you run out of money, deal with it.

I would like special maps giving the players some fun things.. like:
after 30 minutes, all players get one nuke each.. could result in instant thermonuclear war.

or, 15 minutes in: all view get lost, gps not working, planes and chopper not able to fly, etc....
or: 20 minutes:
All map shown, gps hacked....All players got map...

or
10 minutes in, all players get 10k and message: "the santa just arrived, let the games begin"

Things like that should be possible in yamls..

10 minutes in, Giant Ants invade a random player. 20 minutes in, an even bigger wave of Giant Ants arrive... etc.

I want to recreate 'The Hills Have Eyes' for OpenRA which has hostile civilians with powerful weapons. Here's a video of it in Red Alert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLb6RuZAhIU

I love that map. I even went so far as to edit it into a co-op 'mission' many years ago, with the objective being to destroy the village.
