Just wanted to register my appreciation for openra! It's always a joy to find a well made open source preservation of any classic game, but even better how you aren't shy of refining the gameplay or interface.

I hope one day someone will add support for the voxel units, and the isometric tiles. Seems like that would be the only major roadblock for people wanting to implement tiberian sun/red alert 2 in this engine! Cnc introduced me to the genre, but I always liked the more tongue in cheek style of RA2, with all its mind control and rocketmen etc... but it could use a good kick in the arse as well :)

There's not much stopping you from creating an RA2-styled mod with the engine. It wouldn't be isometric or voxel-based, but the core gameplay elements are possible.

Indeed, that is what is so cool about it - even after only stumbling on openra by chance, I can see it has a lot of potential by virtue of how strong it already is :). I always get the impression that westwood probably built up from cnc to yuri's revenge incrementally themselves - dos naming conventions on a windows game?

Anyway I wouldn't personally have time to single handedly make an RA2 mod, but it seems there is so much art in the community it almost just needs a ''curator'' to bring it to life.

I just thought of another thing I would love to happen - zooming! It already exists as an option in pixel doubling, why not bind it to a key and make it a feature?

What were they thinking making Generals 3d, and yet unable to overview the battlefield! Wasted opportunity... unfathomably limited interface... why even bother with 3d in the first place...just limiting themselves to the formula already established...insulting the intelligence of the fans... grumble mumble....

I think I remember a hack to get around that, but am I imagining that?

I like good old 2D RTS games anyway :D

And 2D tiles are easy to mod than 3D stuff
