You need to have a video card that supports Shader Model 2.0. If you have Compiz running you'll need to disable it.

If that works you'll get a different error because the Tao framework's freetype support crashes under Mono x64, I tried some fixes but I'm not sure whether they work or not, you'll have to test them for me.

Make sure the game is complaining about Tao.Freetype blabla crashing though, you might have a different crash.

EDIT: Some other people tested it just now, and it doesn't work.
