Ah, you mean in a way .gif can have multiple frames in a single file? From the technical point of view, PNG could then be used as a sprite sheet. Of course, then there's the "detail" of implementing this different way to handle sprites.

Game art in PNG format

Hello, Currently OpenRA uses art assets in the .shp format, for obvious reason to use original Red Alert and C&C sprites. I'm wondering though, how realistic would it be to support an image format unrestrained by licences, copyright etc. the immediate choice being PNG. OpenRA could then be used as a...

Thank you developers for implementing mouse-over health preview and defensive buildings radius preview. It's a really nice usability touch. However one thing I noticed with defensive building radius is that the yellow colour used to show the radius doesn't show well on snow terrain. It's not impossi...

Here's another proposal: In RA2, you had the option to switch between tabs using keyboard shortcuts. Q was for buildings W was for defence buildings E was for infantry R was for tanks / ships / aircraft On their own, these shortcuts don't add much value and usefulness to the UI. However, the nice pa...

Hello, here are my proposals: *Show radius of all defensive structures when you are about to place a new defensive structure. This way you get a good overview of base defense coverage and can make a better decision where to build defenses. Perhaps limit this per building type. So when building AA gu...

If you're serious about your game, you should avoid using their art assets (especially if you plan to sell your game). OpenRA is different in this. First, the project is not commercial, so the creators aren't earning money based on somebody else's work. Also, the project offers the engine while the ...

Problem starting OpenRA (Solved)

Hello, First of all kudos to your effort, it's really cool to see this engine being recreated in open source, especially seeing all the small gui and functionality improvements that make a lot of difference. However I'm having some trouble starting the game, well it doesn't start at all and this is ...
