RAGL Frontline Reports :: S06.4

Post by netnazgul »

Week four of the season went somewhat quiet as most of interesting matchups were delayed to later date and already delayed ones stayed being so. For a while longer.

First season forfeits came in from Minions division: Bain and Odourless had too muchh stuff happening in RL to be able to keep up with tournament schedule, with Odourless also not having enough luck scheduling his matches against an extreme newzealand-ish timezone. Let's hope we see these guys next season up and running, as they both produced good games and were considered among the nominal top-goers in Minions prior to or early in the season.

Notable weekly highlights

Season 6 Scoreboards and Fixtures thread.

:: eskimo 1-1 ZxGanon
The top match of week 4, eskimo vs ZxGanon was anticipated as somewhat unpredictable, as either party could have a positive result depending on past and present performance.
First game on Badger Hills did deliver this right away, as eskimo ran a straight 10-grenadier rush on double ref while ZxGanon skipped Barracks and went straight War Factory build. You might guess the result of the game.

Game on Forgotten Plains went another scenario, with ZxGanon trying to take initiative from the start. There was a number of killed engineers in the process and eskimo actually had an advantage on oils at some point, also taking control of the middle with more aggressive expansions and faster radar and, surprisingly, iron curtain at 9min already. It did look not that good for ZxGanon as he was behind at both assets and map control, but then infantry-only shock force from eskimo was caught napping in the forest by several precise V2 hits, and Yak invasion got a middle conyard and tech center from eskimo; second yak strafe crippled the Iron Curtain, which was enough for a decent task force of tesla tanks to clean up, because eskimo then didn't have any heavy armor to defend against it. Yaks finished the game off, as ZxGanon sniped every last conyard and service depot.

:: Upps 1-1 FiveAces
Upps already earned The Masters' Slayer title by picking off a point from both ZxGanon and Orb. This time FiveAces fell for the same trap during the game on Shared Responsibility, as Upps cleverly picked the same route for top-right oils corner, delaying the grab for FiveAces, and then pushed a 3ref-backed attack with an ore truck as rifle sponge and as much as 10 rocket soldiers dealing a lot of damage while FiveAces built an adventurously fast Radar Dome and just didn't have any decent defence up against that.

Second game on Forgotten Plains FiveAces still took a gamble by skipping barracks, but as Upps didn't go with any rush tactics, this paid off greatly - by 5min mark FiveAces already had a $1720 to $0 destroyed assets surplus, assets and eco advantage and faster expansion. Upps tried to go against the wave and went basepushing 5A's natural, but it simply didn't work and the game was over.

:: Jur 0-2 jjkramok
This match might be the decisive top spot battle as Jur and jjkramok both have chances to reach WhoCares.
First game on Badger Hills saw Jur managing to demolish the second powerplant by jjkramok with grenadiers just when it was placed; though it didn't really influence the game much, if only delayed the dutch by 8 seconds to build a second one as he was quick on Flame Tower to deflect the rush. Jur then grabbed the middle spot right away and traded more or less effectively during the engagement as jjkramok attacked the expansion. This was where it started to fall apart for Jur though. First, a double-prong attack by jjkramok with both armies managed to do sufficient damage to both expansions; Jur's own army was chilling just near opponent's main before killing 2 ore trucks and perishing without further value. Middle base was destroyed by then, and jjkramok quickly grabbed it for himself, doing another small army feint on the right flank before driving a powerful push to the bottom expansion and adding a bold move to the main which destroyed Radar Dome and War Factory.

Beyond Destruction was picked as the follow-up. Middle map exchanges went relatively even, and jjkramok missed timing with building second powerplant, which resulted in much later Service Depot and somewhat a minute delayed MCV. The decision to take top doublemine was good for him, but the loss of half of his army at Jur's gem expansion wasn't. Surprisingly, Jur dumped a much larger army into jjkramok's main and then made a rather unsuccessful second attack; it did got him Service Depot, but again was lost in a winning situation, while at the same time his opponent's army waltzed through the middle and into his own main, destroying everything in the process.

Events to watch for
3 full rounds and a bunch of delays left in Masters. Expect the raise of activity, as Happy announced his availability through the second part of the week to play some RAGL games. Top4 is still undecided with a lot of different possibilities.

Top spot in Minions is of course still occupied by WhoCares, and there are only two potential players to jump him at the very end of the season. jjkramok needs all four of his remaining matches result in 2-0 wins, including the match vs WhoCares; this will leave to them both having 17-5 score, but jjkramok winning the head-to-head will give him the edge. Jur has some options to take the first place, but still needs to have 1 more point lost at the most, while depending on the JJK vs WCS match outcome.

Follow the competition through forums and Discord server and don't miss on weekly streams by FiveAces (Tuesday EU evenings) and netnazgul (somewhere around the weekend)!
