Reshade for contrast enchancement and CRT effect (windows)

Post by volt »

I just want to let people know you can use a program called Reshade (sweetfx) to make the games look better (imo). If people are interested I'll write a little guide and share my .ini files.

Reshade's CRT filter and other effects is great for processing 2D visuals, much like the shaders and filters available for emulators. I just love the way it interacts with the pixel artwork and smooths it out in a much more interesting way than stuff like plain bilinear filters.
There are too many practical problems for it to be worth the hassle most of the time in modern HD resolutions though. CRT scanlines and such only works well with 2x or higher scaling as seen in those screenshots. But even with pixel doubling enabled, the OpenRA UI elements are still going to be rendered in native resolution and have major readability issues with the CRT shader enabled. And in a multiplayer session you're probably not going to want to play with pixel doubling on all the time either.
