Confused by distance units e.g. 1c256

Post by deadbloke »

Hi all,

I've been messing with the rules in openra for a while now and I've managed to work out how most of the rules work but I'm still confused by the distance definitions, e.g. Range: 1c256.

I've tried searching for an explanation of these units several times, but with no luck :-(

I understand that the number before the 'c' is the number of squares on the map, but what does the 'c' mean and why are the numbers after it always a power of two?

Many thanks,
Richard

P.S. This is my first post, so let me know if I've done anything stupid.

Post is good, welcome!

'1c0' is identical to '0c1024' -- each cell has 1024 measurable units within it. So if a unit has a range of 5c512, it means 5.5 cells

It does work, but why not just use 2c0? ;)

Updated it. I hope it's clearer now.
