Wouldn't it be rather simple to load C&C remaster assets into OpenRA?

Discussion about the game and its default mods.

I'm not really advocating this.. more of just a question our of curiosity. Not sure if it would reflect poorly on OpenRA with how "nice" EA has been but I imagine it would be rather easy to port the new "HD" assets being made for C&C/RA Remastered into the OpenRA engine. Is there some kind of agreement to prevent this from happening? Or some kind of technical hurdle that I'm not aware of?

Depends how/if the art files are encrypted.

but yes, it would be fairly straight forward. Ignoring the legality of it.

However probably best not upset people at EA considering they released these games for free & it would draw unwanted attention to OpenRA as a pirate game platform.

The same reason there can’t be an Official oRA2 release.

Paul Chote is in the community council of the remasters so EA seems to be rather supportive of the OpenRA project. It is no problem to have a free and open source engine plus commercial assets. That's usually how these game engine recreations work. OpenRA is the only one I know of that makes it so convenient to import them. Also, https://github.com/OpenRA/ra2 though underdeveloped already exists as an official project.
