Special Badge Requests

Post by Sleipnir » Sat Aug 25, 2018 4:37 pm

Playtest 20180729 and later include an authentication and badges system that let you display badges as part of your in-game player profile. In addition to the default set, players who meet certain criteria can request access to special badge types:

Image OpenRA Contributor
Available for players who have had a Pull Request accepted or created a map that was included in the default map pool.

Image Bug Hunter
Available for players who have reported 5 bugs that were subsequently fixed.

Bug validity will be evaluated at the discretion of the OpenRA developers. This badge is intended as a reward for people who are actively involved with testing OpenRA, not as a target for everybody to grind towards. We reserve the right to permanently disqualify you from this badge if you flood the bug tracker with duplicate or low-effort bug reports.

Available for players who placed first or second in a recognized community tournament.

Tournament validity will be evaluated at the discretion of the OpenRA developers. At a minimum, they are expected to have included community involvement (e.g. streams and posts on OpenRA's social media pages or this forum) and be listed on the Global Competition page.

The RAGL is a special case – considering the large number of divisions over the different seasons, we are only considering the Masters division as the "global" winners eligible for badges, consistent with the listing on the Global Competition page. This choice is driven by administrative overheads, and we would like to find a solution that can reward the winners in lower tiers in the future.

Available for players who placed first or second in a recognised non-tournament community event.

Other type of events, such as the map making competitions, are also eligible. These events also require a minimum standard of community involvement, such as organization and updates on this forum.

To gain access to these badges you must send a Private Message with the badge that you are interested in and supporting evidence for your eligibility (e.g. links to GitHub or forum threads with results).

We reserve the right to remove badges in the future if we find a need to change the categories or eligibility criteria, and plan to expand the list with additional badge types as the system evolves.
