OpenRA Best Replay of the Month Contest

Post by AgentAAA »

Hi! My name's AgentAAA, I'm a TD player who enjoys a good battle.
I imagine many of us do, though, who play OpenRA.
One thing that has been lacking lately is the ability to watch a good battle, however, due to the content site going down recently.
So, I wracked my brain for a solution, and as such:

the "OpenRA best replay of the month" contest was concocted in my head.
The Process? Simple.
Send in a Replay of a game you've played of OpenRA.
Our team of judges will watch and rate it from 1 to 10
The one which gains the most points wins the distinguishment of "replay of the month"
Any prizes?

How about your replay being recorded and uploaded to youtube(By your choice, of course) and being featured on the front page of the OpenRA main website!
Besides that, I'll be keeping a record of each replay, and will keep a consistent list of past winners in this post.

Seperate prizes exist between RA and TD replays, and will be counted individually. As a result, don't be shy to send us in a replay of either game - it's going to be judged based on it's own game's merits and in it's own division.

For now we won't do a RotM for Dune 2k - it's just not advanced enough yet and the playerbase and meta is hardly there. If we get a lot of messages otherwise and a large amount of replays sent in, we might reconsider, but for now we're sticking to TD and RA matches.

Any rules?
Just a few.

1. To get your replay counted for "replay of the month" the replay needs to be sent in 3 days before the end of said month. Why 3 days? to give the judges extra time to watch and rate the newer replays, to make a clear decision and communicate to all parties, and generally to get finished before the month actually ends officially.

What happens if you send it in after that cut-off period?

It gets counted towards Next month's contest. Not all that bad, right?

2. Nothing offensive in any of your replays. You're allowed to say "damn" in the chat, but no swearing like a sailor.

Additionally, nothing explicit in the game itself. I don't think you have all that much you CAN do in OpenRA that's 18+ but I've seen it done with harder programs and we don't want any of it here. We don't need to see tanks in a formation resembling private parts.

If you do send us anything in the nature of the first - We just won't count that replay. Sorry, but we'd like to keep the contest winners clean.

If you send us something as detailed in the second paragraph and it's clear you knew what you were doing...
Guess who's banned from the contest?

3. To prevent this page being hit with thousands of replays to the point the judges die due to lack of sleep and loss of sanity from being forced to watch so many matches...

2 replays per person. any more sent in will be ignored. as a result, be choosy about what is sent in and what isn't.

Keep in mind this is 2 replays per person, not 2 TD replays and 2 RA replays. You'll have to make a choice on sending in one of each or 2 of one or the other, as a result.
Generally, the only penalty to sending more in is we'll ignore all but the first 2 you post. Other than possibly annoying us there's no penalty unless you're spamming which will have more to do with the forum moderators than us.

4. Offensive content:
This one is similar to the rule about being inappropriate but I felt deserved it's own section. If you say or do anything in the game outright disrespectful to any player, credo, religion, race, species, etc... Your replay won't be shown and unless you appeal it we're likely losing all eligibility to join the contest permanently. Bigotry won't be tolerated.

5. Sorry kids, no modded maps.
This isn't because I don't like modded maps. Modded maps are cool. But we're also looking to highlight the gameplay of TD and RA. Not the Godzilla mod. It's a great game but we're not certain it's either fair or wise to allow submissions of that nature in. You should still submit cool replays of that, just... not here.

This ruleslist is subject to change every month and It's a player's duty to respect and read it before sending in their submissions.

Now, as for submitting them:
Upload to a sharing service such as mediafire and send us a link.
If you're having a problem finding your replays:

-Open up documents
-Open up replays
-Open up the appropriate folder (CnC for TD replays, RA for RA replays)
-Check the name of the replay you want in the OpenRA replay viewer

Look for that name in the folder and you've found your replay file. Now just upload it to a hosting site and share the link with us here!

The contest starts... Today! I'll admit it's sudden and as a result I'm not expecting a huge deluge of replays, but I hope I'll see some good ones stream into the thread regardless.

I have a great 1 vs 1 match where each of us in seaside RA map take time to blast each others while get blasted back, a very enjoyable war on three fronts, all while moving our bases so it ends up in opposite way from when we start...

too bad, the other players' name is "Bad Motherf****r" :(

will look to another match then...

What map is this? Can't watch this due to 'unknown map' in my replay browser.
