Openra runtime issues

Post by vince829 »

Hi everyone,

I just discovered openra and love it.

The problem is the game runs slowly after a few minutes of play and becomes unplayable. I start off at 60FPS and a few minutes in by the time I am building troops, the FPS drops below twenty and the game freezes for seconds constantly. The performance chart spikes off of the chart literally. Sometimes the pathfinder will spike, other times it is the tick, and most of the time it is a little of everything. It seems random as if it is not specific to one problem but rather a lot of problems. My install of openra does not show a "Logs" folder so I don't have perf logs.

Here are my system specs:
Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit
Kernel Linux 3.2.0-51-generic
Memory: 4GB
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II N660 Dual-Core Processor × 2
GNOME 3.4.2
Compiz 0.9.7.12
mono 3.0

A few minutes in:
Mono uses 300MB - seems normal
Mono uses over 100% of cpu
Compiz uses over 40% of cpu
Load averages for last 1, 5, 15 minutes: 3.91, 1.79, 1.24

Please let me know any suggestions to try or if you need more information.

Can you temporarily disable Compiz when playing OpenRA?

I disabled compiz but that still didn't help. There is has got to be some bug in the code because all of a sudden things will start to spike up. I attached three screen shots to this reply.

Looks like you're hitting a known performance bug related to bots on large maps with disconnected islands.
This has been fixed in the latest playtest builds, but the bots still aren't smart enough to play effectively on these maps so they have also been disabled there.
