Messed up graphics on ATI

Post by Random »

I have an ATI HD4870 with 10-9_xp32 Display Drivers, running on Windows XP SP3 with all the updates and newest version of OpenAL.

Red Alert: Various graphic corruptions, mostly odd units that are not there. Often see flying infantry.

C&C: Even more problems, black boxes and units inside them. Unplayable. Also there is no selection box indicator when building new buildings.

I have tried placing atioglxx.dll in the OpenRA directory as suggested in this thread here.
Cemisti wrote: Apparently AMD broke OpenGL drivers in catalyst 10.5 that caused couple of older games using OpenGL to not function properly. Instead of fixing it, they broke it more on catalyst 10.8 and that results in what you see in the screenshots I posted earlier. Using catalyst 10.4 OpenGL drivers by placing them in the game folder makes the game use those instead of the currently installed drivers. I've also noticed some issues in other OpenGL games like Duke Nukem 3D that this fixed too.

Here's the link for the file. Just place it your OpenRA folder, if you are having issues with Radeon drivers.

However doing this causes the game to crash on start both for C&C and RA.

In the background is exception.log which is generated after the crash, other logs are empty.

Thanks for any suggestions, really want to play this.

The only solution I found so far is to revert to 10-4_xp32_dd (8.723.0.0) drivers.

If you are on XP here is a list of the all the old drivers on the ATI site
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/w ... iw_xp.aspx

Also here is the atioglxx.dll from 8.723.0.0 for Windows XP, copied it from /WINDOWS/System32/ (It appears to differ from the other one posted) Maybe this will work for someone else place it in OpenRA directory.

We need find a better fix for this, since I doubt ATI will resolve this. If anyone else has any better solutions please make a post.
